Covid-19 New Variant Symptoms

The cases of new variants of mutated SARS-CoV-2 are emerging in India. It has become crucial to understand how the symptoms of several new variants vary from the original one. The new variant is highly infectious for all age groups. It carries the same risk for all people. Some previous common symptoms are High-low grade fever, Cough, Cold, Difficulty breathing, Muscle aches, Loss of smell and taste, and runny nose.

But now, more symptoms appeared. Some of them are dry mouth, non-salivation, gastric symptoms, and headaches. These new symptoms are as follows:

  • Pink Eye: A pink eye or conjunctivitis is a sign of COVID-19 infection. In pink eye, people may develop redness, swelling, and the eye becomes watery.

  • Stomach Trouble: COVID-19 infection affects the upper respiratory system, although a new study says diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, nausea, and pain are signs of coronavirus. If you are facing digestive disorders, you need to get tested.

    1. Gastric: It can disrupt the functioning of the gastric tract and render it unable to perform its duties of absorbing electrolytes and fluids from the body. It can also lead to bleeding in the gastric tract.

    2. Diarrhea: Diarrhea or watery, soft stools are among the most common symptoms seen in COVID-19 patients during the second wave. Reports suggest that most people with COVID-19 complained of persistent diarrhea for 1 to 14 days, with an average duration of 5 days.

  • Fatigue: After recovering from any viral illness or infection, our body tends to take time to heal, and people often tire easily, but COVID patients suffer from fatigue and exhaustion, but it can last up to six months. The severity and duration of fatigue can help determine long COVID. Approximately 63% of patients reported suffering from fatigue, weakness, muscle aches for nearly six months, even after the first symptoms manifest.

  • Skin Problems: Although less common, coronavirus can affect your skin. For some people, this may be the only sign of coronavirus infection.

  • Impaired Hearing: The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has advised that unusual symptoms should not be ruled out and require testing. Some uncommon symptoms include hearing loss with symptoms such as muffled hearing, impaired hearing, and ear pain.

The new strain created the need to revisit resource planning, as well as take charge of Covid preparedness and Covid management strategies. People must also exercise continued caution following successful hand sanitization, double masking, and social distancing protocols as a means of limiting the second wave of the virus.
